Weekly Highlights at Mossy Lea
We’ve jumped straight into the Summer Term with a fantastic start across the school!
Acorn Class have been busy diving into their new topics. In English, we’ve begun reading The Queen’s Knickers – the children made some brilliant predictions about what might happen in the story! In History, we kicked off our "Kings and Queens" topic by learning what a monarch is and what makes a good one. We even dressed up as royalty ourselves!
In Science, the children explored materials by hunting around the classroom to find objects made of wood, plastic, fabric, and cardboard – a fun and hands-on start to our new unit!
Oak Class returned to school with a mystery – a “Danger, Do Not Enter” sign awaited them! After a bit of investigating and some imaginative predictions, we discovered via BBC News that an earthquake had hit Wrightington!
This exciting hook launched us into our half-termly topic: Extreme Earth.
In English, we’ve been analysing powerful diary entries from eye-witnesses of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, with a focus on emotive language. In Geography, we explored the layers of the Earth , and in Science, we began our new topic by sorting living things using Venn and Carroll diagrams.
Whole School PE has tied in with Acorn Class’s theme of Kings and Queens — we’ve been learning about London landmarks and using movement to become the landmarks ourselves! Tower Bridge has never looked so lively!
Gardening Club also began this week, and our green-fingered after-school crew made beautiful bird feeders and hung them on the trees around school. The birds are in for a treat!
We’re loving the energy and enthusiasm everyone has brought into the new term — bring on more learning adventures next week!
