Week Ending 3rd October

This Week at Mighty Mossy!

It’s been another busy and exciting week of learning and creativity across our classes!

Acorns:

English – We explored the features of non-chronological reports in our reading stage.

Science – We learned about the Wright Brothers and tested our engineering skills by making and flying our own planes from different materials!

History – We were inspired by Mae Jemison , the first Black female astronaut, and discussed how she overcame adversity after being told women couldn’t be astronauts.

Maths –

Reception: Visited Numberland, exploring the number 3.

Year 2: Used part-whole models and base ten to solve missing number subtraction problems.

Year 3: Worked on statistics and bar graphs.

Oak Class:

English – We completed our independent writes, creating our own exciting additional chapter for Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

History – We discovered how the Ancient Greeks have influenced modern life, especially through theatre and had fun designing and making our own performance masks.

Science – We compared the gestation periods of different animals.

Maths –

Year 4: Drew and interpreted graphs.

Year 5: Practised formal written methods for addition and subtraction.

Year 6: Used the grid method for multiplication.

Forest Friday:

We headed outdoors for a bug hunt , then gathered natural materials to build our own bug hotel. Everyone enjoyed taking part in a carousel of forest-themed crafts too!
