Week Ending 30th January

🌿 This Week at Mighty Mossy 🌿

Acorn Class have been busy building on their learning across the curriculum:
✏️ English: The children finished their fairytales with a twist and have now begun a new unit on non-chronological reports, focusing on habitats.
🏺 History: Acorns explored how shops have changed over time, comparing past and present.
💻 Computing: The class continued developing their coding skills, building confidence and logical thinking.
🔬 Science: Learning has focused on habitats and microhabitats. This week, the children studied minibeasts and discussed how they depend on their environment to survive.

Oak Class have made an exciting start to new topics:
✏️ English: The class began their new non-fiction unit, “Can I be a magazine journalist?” They explored the purpose, audience, and features of a range of non-fiction texts and magazines.
🔬 Science: In a cross-curricular activity, the children wrote diary entries from the perspective of a red blood cell, combining scientific knowledge with creative writing.
🏺 History: English skills were applied again as Oaks wrote diary entries in role as the warrior Fu Hao, deepening their understanding of life in the Shang Dynasty.
📚 Book Club: The children continued learning with author Jenny McLachlan and enjoyed designing their own characters, inspired by her work.

🎨 Community Poster Project:
We have been invited to design posters to encourage people to take pride in our local surroundings — promoting care for the environment, discouraging litter, and respecting nature. These colourful, creative posters will hopefully be displayed in the local area, giving our children a real voice in the community.

Another fantastic week of learning, creativity, and community spirit at Mighty Mossy 💚
