Week Ending 13th February

🌿 This Week at Mighty Mossy 🌿
What a fantastic way to finish the half term!
Acorn Class have been busy learning through hands-on experiences:
🔬 Science: The children learned about food chains, carefully matching animals to their habitats and understanding how living things depend on one another.
🏺 History: Acorns listened to teachers being interviewed about toys from their childhood, comparing past and present. Inspired by this, they had a go at making their own pencil spinners — lots of creativity and concentration on display!
Oak Class have wrapped up their topics in style:
📰 English/Science: As magazine journalists, the children created their own science-themed magazines showcasing everything they have learned this half term. Their work included a non-chronological report on the circulatory system, instructions on how to live a healthy lifestyle, and a recount of the journey of a blood cell — a brilliant combination of scientific understanding and writing skills.
🇨🇳 Chinese-Themed Celebration Day: To finish our China unit, Oak Class enjoyed a special themed day. They learned basic Mandarin greetings, practised writing their names in Mandarin, explored some Chinese maths, tasted Chinese food, and created glitter fireworks. A wonderful way to celebrate their learning!
🤝 Visit to the Foodbank: After receiving donated food in school, our Pupil Voice group decided to pass it on to Living Waters Storehouse in Chorley. Well done to the children who delivered the donations — a lovely example of community spirit and kindness.
🎶 Young Voices Choir: After many weeks of rehearsals, some of our Year 4–6 pupils joined St George’s to attend the Young Voices performance at the Co-op Live arena. They will just be arriving back as we share this update, and we can’t wait to hear all about what must have been an incredible experience!
We wish everyone a wonderful, restful half term break and look forward to welcoming you back on 23rd February 💚
