Weekly Highlights at Mighty Mossy!
It’s been another busy and exciting week of learning here at school—here’s what we’ve been up to:
Acorn Class
English – We’ve been diving into the story Tidy, sequencing the key events and creating fantastic noun phrases to describe our new woodland setting.
Geography – Our new topic is all about the seaside! We explored our local seaside town of Blackpool, researching key facts and turning our findings into colourful, informative leaflets.
Science – This week, we investigated greenhouse gases and their effect on our climate. The children loved our hands-on experiment using ice and clingfilm to demonstrate how heat gets trapped.
Design & Technology – We’ve been learning essential kitchen skills, practising how to safely peel and chop potatoes using peelers and blunt knives. A great way to build confidence and independence!
Oak Class
English – We’ve kicked off our new unit: Can my folk tale entertain the children in Acorn Class? We’ve been exploring The Tin Forest by Helen Ward, making thoughtful predictions and using our inference skills to write conversations between the old man and the tin bird.
Science – Our new unit asks: How can light be dangerous if it’s so important? We’ve identified different sources of light—did you know the moon isn’t actually a light source? We only see it because it reflects the sunlight!
Design & Technology – We’ve put the finishing touches on our amazing modroc volcanoes, adding colourful paint to really bring them to life. They look fantastic!
Important Reminders
Homework Menus and Curriculum Letters have been sent home this week. Please take a moment to read through them—they contain lots of important information. We’d also love for you to encourage your child to complete some of the fun and engaging homework activities at home!
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
