Week Ending 20th June

Weekly Highlights from Mighty Mossy!
We’ve had another fantastic week of learning, creativity and outdoor adventure across the school.
Oak Class:
English – We explored 'The Tin Forest', using expanded noun phrases to create our own setting descriptions. The children performed the story opening using Talk for Writing actions and wrote their own innovated settings — fantastic work!
Science – We investigated reflective materials to find the best option for a school book bag. After lots of fun testing (in the windowless disabled toilet!), we decided CD material worked best.
🌍 Geography – We made our own mini tsunamis using a plastic box, mud and water to see how waves can affect the land — a messy but fascinating experiment!
Maths – We were excited to welcome Mrs Norris, the Lancashire Maths consultant who wrote our Red Rose Maths scheme. She was so impressed with the children’s enthusiasm, reasoning and mathematical vocabulary.
Acorn Class:
English – We began a modelled write based on the story 'Tidy' — the children are working hard on building their writing skills!
DT – We practised measuring using scales to make delicious rocky road — great teamwork and tasty results!
Geography – We learned about the human and physical features of the seaside, spotting the differences and discussing what we might see on a seaside visit.
Forest School – Our highlight of the week was a brilliant day with Miss Glover from St. George’s. Activities included den building, whittling wood, making mini animal shelters, tree salt dough decorations and bird feeders — finished off with s’mores around the campfire! Please see the Galleries for the forest school photos.
A huge well done to all of our children for a wonderful week of learning and fun!
