Week Ending 11th July

Weekly Highlights from Mighty Mossy!
It’s been another fantastic week full of learning, laughter and sunshine here at Mossy Lea!
In Acorn Class:
In English, we wrapped up our leaflet unit all about Blackpool – just in time for our exciting trip on Tuesday! Today, we also dipped our toes into the world of poetry, exploring acrostic poems about summer.
In Science, we researched the inspiring marine biologist Rachel Carson. Did you know she helped spark the global environmental movement with her book Silent Spring? Check out our video on Seesaw!
In Maths, Year 2 have been telling the time in 5-minute intervals, Year 1 have been using bar diagrams to solve questions, and Reception have been exploring the world of 3D shapes.
In Oak Class:
In English, we’ve been busy editing and improving our independent stories and even recorded ourselves reading them to share with our reading buddies in Acorn Class! We’ve also launched our exciting new slam poetry unit – get ready for performances full of personality!
In Geography, we debated the pros and cons of land development, focusing on real-life examples like the proposed developments of The Rivaj and Camelot.
In Maths, Year 5 had a blast launching straw rockets to measure and convert lengths – and we were amazed to learn the world record for long jump stands at a whopping 8.89 metres! We used a trundle wheel to measure it out and couldn’t believe how far that really is!
The highlight of the week was, without a doubt, our Sports Day and Colour Run! The children showed incredible teamwork, determination, and joy – even in the sweltering heat! A huge thank you to all our families who came along to support and cheer everyone on.
