Trip to The Lowry

We’ve had a fantastic day on our trip to The Lowry! ☀️🎭🎨

Oak Class took part in an exciting drama workshop based on Macbeth, linking perfectly with our current English unit. The children were very impressive with what they already knew and remembered about the play! The workshop really brought the story to life, and we’re all feeling very excited to read the final battle scene tomorrow to discover what happens to Macbeth!

Acorn Class began the day exploring Lowry’s artwork and learning how his style developed over time. We remembered lots about him from our work in the Autumn term. In the classroom, we looked at images from around Wigan and discussed tone, blending, and shading. We practised breaking down complex pictures into simple shapes—without rubbers or starting again—so we carefully built up our work from light sketches. Our workshop teacher was so impressed, saying our work was on par with some Year 4 and 5 classes she has taught!

After lunch, we spent time in the Lowry gallery, where the highlight was the immersive 360° show bringing *Going to the Match* to life—an unforgettable experience! ⚽

To top off a wonderful day, we enjoyed some sunshine by the river, watching the boats go by. 🌊🚤

A brilliant trip full of creativity, learning, and fun!
