Week Ending 19th June

Weekly Highlights at Mighty Mossy ![]()
We've had another fantastic week of learning, creativity and discovery across school!
Acorn Class
In History, we have been learning about homes from the past and the materials they were made from. We explored how homes have changed over time and then placed different types of homes onto a timeline.
In Science, we continued our investigation of everyday materials. The children enjoyed carrying out experiments to test the properties of familiar materials and discussing their findings.
In DT, we became engineers and created our own marble runs. We focused on how to control the direction and speed of a marble, testing and adapting our designs to make them even better.
Oak Class
In Science, we thoroughly enjoyed learning about the adaptation and evolution of the peppered moth. The children were fascinated by how the species changed over time in response to its environment and the role natural selection played in its survival.
In our cross-curricular Geography and Computing lesson, we used our knowledge of plastic ocean pollution to create and edit documents in Microsoft Word. We practised adding text and images to present information clearly and effectively.
In DT, we focused on the importance of food hygiene before beginning our food preparation work. We discussed why handwashing and cleaning utensils are so important. To demonstrate how germs can spread, we used glitter on our hands before practising effective handwashing techniques. Once our hands were clean, we prepared and cut fruit safely.
Forest Friday
This week, we developed our artistic skills through observational sketching. We carefully studied natural objects before using a range of different media to add colour, texture and detail to our artwork.
Author Visit
We were also lucky enough to join a live Zoom session with children's author Andy Stanton! The children were excited to meet the author behind many of the books we enjoy in school, hear about his writing journey and ask questions about his stories. It was a fantastic experience and one that inspired lots of budding young writers.
A huge well done to all of our children for another week filled with curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm for learning!
