Week Ending 26th June

Weekly Highlights at Mighty Mossy ![]()
What a warm week we've had! We did our very best to keep cool, with lots of our learning taking place in the shade under the trees. Of course, the highlight of the week had to be our Water Run, where everyone had lots of fun cooling off together! ![]()

Acorn Class
In Science, we continued learning about materials by identifying everyday objects and the materials they are made from. We discovered that some objects are made from more than one material before grouping the materials and comparing what they are used for.
Our Reception children had great fun in the water play area, where their imaginations were in full flow! They transformed the water tray into a busy restaurant, "cooking" delicious pasta dishes for the whole school. When asked if they could make chicken pasta, the response was a confident, "We can do it!" It was wonderful to see such fantastic imaginative play, teamwork and communication.
In History, we explored Victorian homes and compared them with houses today. The children noticed that Victorian homes seemed much more cluttered, with lots of ornaments, statues and "knick-knacks"! We then put our creativity to work by making origami houses and decorating them to look like our own homes.
Oak Class
In English, we completed our unit on flashbacks, taking inspiration from the Pensieve in the Harry Potter stories. The children each wrote a favourite memory and then recorded it for Seesaw. Why not have a listen together and reminisce about the special moment they chose?
In Science, we investigated how different birds' beaks are adapted for different types of food. Through practical activities, we explored how finches have evolved over time to survive in different environments.
In DT, we welcomed visitors from Asda, who helped us make our own fruit salad and yoghurt pots. The children put their cutting and food preparation skills into practice while creating some delicious healthy snacks.
Well done to all of our children for showing such resilience and enthusiasm despite the hot weather. We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and let's hope for slightly cooler temperatures next week!
