World Down Syndrome Day

🧦🌍 World Down Syndrome Day!

Today, we raised awareness by wearing odd socks. But why did we wear odd socks?

Below is a karyotype showing the chromosomes of someone with Down Syndrome. They look like pairs of socks, don't they?

Look at chromosome 23 - for typical people you'd only see 2 copies but because this is from someone with DS is has 3... an ODD number.

Hence ODD socks

Wearing odd socks also reminds us that just because things may be different, they aren't worth less. The odd socks are no better or worse than each other, just different. And the same can be said for humans.

At Mossy Lea, one of our school values is ‘We stand together’ - we embrace everyone's unique differences and create a more inclusive environment. #WorldDownSyndromeDay #WeStandTogether 🧦💙
