What an action-packed week at Mossy Lea!
This week, our Picture News assembly sparked some important discussions about who should be involved in key decisions for the world . We learned about the alarming news that 2024 was the hottest year on record, with global temperatures rising by 1.5°C. This rise is linked to more extreme weather events like heatwaves, storms, and wildfires.
We were inspired by Greta Thunberg’s belief that “you’re never too small to make a difference” and talked about how we, as a school community, can make an impact. This topic ties in with the British Value of Democracy and our own school value of We are responsible.
In another assembly, we dove into the traditions of Chinese New Year —the children were amazed to learn the celebrations last for 14 days!
Acorn Class has been busy making their own sandwiches , preparing for their writing task where they’ll create instructions for others to follow. They’ve also been using glue guns in DT to create their very own robots
.
Meanwhile, Oak Class took part in a fizzy science investigation , exploring the question, “Which drink is the fizziest?” The children were fascinated to learn that carbon dioxide has mass!
In English, we've had a blast with our poetry unit, based on Michael Rosen's Chocolate Cake . The children fully embraced performing the poem and then came up with their own creative twists based on their favourite foods. Mrs. Greenhalgh is even emailing some of their innovations to Michael Rosen himself!
And in Computing, our tech-savvy children have been busy writing code to turn the Micro:bit into a step counter!
It's been an exciting week of learning new skills and applying them in creative ways.
