?? This Week at Mighty Mossy! ??

It’s been another fantastic week at Mighty Mossy, filled with curiosity, creativity, teamwork and plenty of learning! ?? Here’s a look at what our Acorn and Oak Classes have been getting up to…

?? Lancashire Library Bus Visit:

We were delighted to welcome the Lancashire Library Bus to Mighty Mossy this week! ???? The children had a fantastic time exploring the huge selection of books and choosing their own favourites to take back to school. Each child selected three books, giving them plenty of opportunities to discover new stories, authors and topics. It was wonderful to see so much excitement and enthusiasm as the children browsed the shelves, and we hope this visit inspires an even greater love of reading! ?????

?? Acorn Class Highlights:

?? English: We have started our exciting new topic exploring the question “Could dinosaurs live in Mossy Meadow?” We headed outdoors to investigate whether dinosaurs really could live in our environment and then came up with lots of questions we would like to ask about dinosaurs. ?? Next week, we’ll be finding out the answers using non-fiction books!

?? Science: We have been learning about birds and reptiles, looking closely at their characteristics and discussing the similarities and differences between the two groups.

?? Outdoor Learning: The Acorns took to our outdoor stage and put on their very own performance! There was lots of singing, dancing and fantastic confidence on show. ??????

?? Computing: We have continued learning about algorithms and had lots of fun trying to follow instructions to turn a frog into a prince! ????

?? Oak Class Highlights:

?? English: We have begun our new unit on play scripts, exploring the features of a script and beginning to look at Rocking Romans. We’re looking forward to developing our own scripts and performances!

?? Computing: We have been writing a script for a mini vlog about how to stay safe online, ready for us to film using iMovie. ????

?? Science: We carried out an investigation into melting points and changes of state, using chocolate buttons! ?? We focused on making sure our investigation was a fair test, carefully considering the variables we needed to control.

?? Forest Friday:

We became mini-beast detectives, searching for creatures in our outdoor environment. We then designed our own bug hotels, thinking carefully about the different materials and resources that mini beasts would like to use. ???????

? Harvest Assembly:

A huge WELL DONE to all of our children for their wonderful performance at our Harvest Assembly at Tunley Church. ???? We were incredibly proud of them!

And a huge thank you to all of our families for coming along and supporting us. It was so lovely to see the church completely full! ??

We would also like to say a very special thank you for your incredibly generous donations to the food bank. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference to local families. ????

? Another wonderful week at Mighty Mossy! ?

Year 6 PGL Adventure

What an incredible few days our Year 6 children had at PGL! From the moment we arrived, the children were full of excitement and enthusiasm, and they certainly made the most of every opportunity.

Our first activities included archery and climbing, where the children quickly showed their determination and willingness to challenge themselves. Over the following days, they tackled Jacob’s Ladder and a range of problem-solving challenges, working brilliantly as a team and encouraging one another along the way. They also showed tremendous courage during abseiling and survival activities, stepping outside their comfort zones and supporting their friends.

There was certainly no shortage of excitement! The children took on the Giant Swing and laser tag, before ending one of our evenings around the campfire.  We enjoyed campfire songs, plenty of laughter and, of course, toasted marshmallows!

Our final activities included high ropes and rifle shooting, providing one last opportunity for the children to challenge themselves before heading home.

Throughout the whole trip, we were incredibly proud of the way our children conducted themselves. They demonstrated teamwork, resilience, courage, independence and kindness, and it was wonderful to see them encouraging and supporting each other throughout every activity.

A huge thank you to the staff who helped make the trip so special and to our wonderful friends at St George’s, who shared the adventure with us. We have made some truly special memories together — memories that we hope our Year 6 children will treasure for many years to come.

What an adventure, what a team and what incredible memories!

Early Reading and Maths – Reception Parents

Our Reading Meeting will take place on Wednesday, 30th September at 15:40. This is an opportunity for parents to find out how their child will learn early reading, writing and maths skills in school and how they can support this at home. We encourage a parent to attend for each child where possible.

 Forest Friday & Eco-Schools Update

We are very excited to be restarting our Eco-Schools journey and continuing to look after and improve our school environment.

As part of our first Forest Friday activity, we are going to be making bug hotels to provide a safe and welcoming habitat for insects and other minibeasts around our school grounds.

We would love to invite parents and carers to come along and help us build our bug hotels on Friday 16th October at 2pm.

Our reserve date, should the weather be unsuitable, will be Friday 23rd October at 2pm.

Before we begin building our larger bug hotels, we will be making some mini bug hotels using plant pots.

If you are able to help, we would be very grateful for donations of medium-sized plastic plant pots for the children to use. ??

Thank you for your support — we are really looking forward to working together to make our school a fantastic place for both children and wildlife!

Year 2 Residential Trip to Bibby’s Farm

We are delighted to announce that our Year 2 residential trip to Bibby’s Farm, with St. George's, will take place on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd July 2027.

This two-day residential is a brilliant opportunity for our children to experience new adventures, build confidence and develop their independence in a fun and supportive environment. Throughout the trip, children will have the chance to develop important skills such as teamwork, resilience and independence, while making wonderful memories with their friends.

During their stay, the children will take part in a range of exciting outdoor activities, which may include canoeing, climbing and grass sledging, alongside plenty of opportunities to socialise with friends and play on the park (always a firm favourite).

 Parents & Children Information Meeting

We will be holding a parents and children meeting at Bibby’s Farm, closer to the date of the trip. This will give families the opportunity to visit the site, see the activities, bedrooms and park, and find out more about what the children can expect during their stay. Details will be shared closer to the time.

 Spreading the Cost

The residential has been added to SCOPAY, allowing families to spread the cost of the trip over the year. We ask for an initial £30 deposit to be paid by 16th October.

If you would like to find out more about Bibby’s Farm, please visit their website:

Bibby’s Farm website

You are also welcome to speak to your child's class teacher. We are really looking forward to giving our Year 2 children this fantastic opportunity and creating some special memories together!
