?? This Week at Mighty Mossy! ??

Another wonderful week of learning, creativity and discovery at Mighty Mossy! 🌿 Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to.

🌱 Acorn Class

🦕 English: We have started our exciting new topic on dinosaur poetry! We have been exploring the key features of poems, performing them and having a go at writing our own verses using rhyming couplets. We can’t wait to see our dinosaur poems come to life!

🐾 Science: We have been learning about how to care for animals. Everyone chose an animal and wrote instructions explaining how to look after it properly. We have some very caring animal experts in Acorn Class!

🎨 Art: We have designed colourful backgrounds for our dinosaurs using printing techniques. We experimented with different shapes and created repeating patterns to make our artwork stand out.

🔷 Maths: We have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes, learning to identify their properties and spot examples of these shapes all around our classroom. Shape detectives at work!

🏛️ Oak Class

📚 English: We have started our new non-fiction unit, exploring non-chronological reports. Our big question is: Can I write a non-chronological report to share what I have learnt about the Romans with my parents? This is a lovely cross-curricular link with our History learning, giving us the chance to share all our fascinating Roman knowledge.

💧 Science: We carried out an exciting investigation using hot water in a cup, cling film and ice cubes. We observed what happened and explored the science behind condensation and the water cycle. Lots of scientific thinking and curiosity!

🏺 History: We have been exploring the lasting legacy of the Romans. From roads and aqueducts to Roman numerals, buildings and aspects of our legal system, we have been discovering how Roman ideas and inventions have influenced the world we live in today.

💚 Class Call-In

It was lovely to welcome so many of you into school for our Class Call-In! The children absolutely love sharing their wonderful work with you, showing off their classrooms and talking about all the things they have been learning. Thank you for taking the time to come in and celebrate their achievements with us.

🌳 Highlight of the Week – Forest Friday!

Our Forest Friday was full of creativity and teamwork as we continued making our bug hotels! 🐞 A huge thank you to all the families who came along and supported the children. It was wonderful to see everyone working together to create little homes for our garden minibeasts. Your support makes these experiences even more special! 🌿

Well done, Mighty Mossy, for another fantastic week of learning.

Break the Rules Day – Friday, 23rd October

As Halloween falls during the October half term again this year, we won’t be holding our usual party. Instead, to add a little fun and raise funds for school, we’ll be hosting a “Break the Rules Day” on Friday, 23rd October.

On this special day, pupils will have the chance to bend the rules – all for a good cause! Each rule broken will cost £1, with a maximum of £5 per child.

Some ideas include:

· Wearing trainers instead of school shoes – £1

· Wearing hair down instead of tied up – £1

· Bringing a treat for playtime instead of fruit – £1

· Wearing a Halloween costume – £1

It’s a chance for the children to get creative, enjoy a day of mischief and help raise money at the same time. We can’t wait to see their imaginative rule-breaking!

A gentle nudge to check your SCO Pay balances…

As we approach half term, please could all families take a moment to check their balances for Breakfast Club, Late Stay, and School Dinners on SCO Pay. Even small outstanding amounts soon build up, and settling these now helps us keep things running smoothly for everyone. Thank you, as always, for your support and cooperation — it really does make a difference. Sadly, due to an increasing number of people not paying their debts off, any debts that are not cleared before the end of term will result in your place at Breakfast Club and Late Stay being revoked. This isn't what we want to do but is necessary.
