🌟 This Week at Mighty Mossy! 🌟

It’s been another busy week of learning, creativity and discovery at Mossy Lea! πŸ’š Here’s a look at what our Acorn and Oak Classes have been getting up to…

🌰 Acorn Class Highlights

🎢 Music: We have enjoyed our music lesson with Ross from Lancashire Music Lancashire Professional Development Service - LPDS, listening to different beats and exploring rhythm. πŸ₯πŸŽ΅

πŸ“š Reading Buddies: A big thank you to our wonderful reading buddies, who have been listening to our Acorn children read each morning. We really appreciate you helping us to develop our love of reading! πŸ’šπŸ“–

πŸ“ Maths: We have been learning about length and height, exploring different objects and deciding whether we should measure them in metres or centimetres.

🐾 Science: We have been identifying mammals and learning about the features that help us recognise them. 🐢🐘🐭

🎨 Art: We have been getting creative with printing, using objects such as fruit to create different patterns and prints. 🍎🍊

🌳 Oak Class Highlights

✍️ English: We completed our first modelled write and then created our own innovations on the story of Romulus and Remus. We challenged ourselves to include subordinate clauses in our writing, putting our grammar skills into practice!

πŸ”¬ Science: We investigated materials that aren't always obviously a solid, liquid or gas, including interesting examples such as toothpaste, shaving foam and sponges. We had to think carefully about their properties and how they behave!

🧡 Art/DT: We have been developing our sewing skills by practising the back stitch. There were lots of careful fingers and concentration involved! πŸͺ‘

🏐 PE: We have been practising our chest pass in netball, working on our technique and accuracy while developing our teamwork skills.

πŸ‚ Forest Friday: We combined nature and mindfulness this week, using items we had collected from the woods as part of a guided meditation. πŸŒΏπŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ A lovely opportunity to slow down, connect with nature and take some time to be mindful.

Join Us for a Harvest Assembly at Tunley Church

We are thrilled to invite you to a special event that celebrates the spirit of giving and the bountiful harvest season - our Harvest Assembly! This heartwarming gathering will take place at Tunley Church on Thursday, 24th September at 9 am.

This assembly is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and share in the joy of the season. Here are some important details to note:

Children's Arrival:

Children are to meet directly at the church ready for the assembly. There is no need for them to come to school first, unless they are joining us for our breakfast club. The Church will be open from 08:45 and the assembly will begin at 09:00.  Please ensure that you leave your child directly with a member of staff if you are uable to stay.

**Bringing the Harvest Spirit:**

Harvest is a time for giving, and as part of our tradition, we will be making donations to β€˜The Brick” food bank in Wigan. If you wish to contribute, please bring your donations on the day of the assembly. Your generosity will make a significant difference in the lives of those in need in our community.

Early Reading and Maths – Reception Parents

Our Reading Meeting will take place on Wednesday, 30th September at 15:40. This is an opportunity for parents to find out how their child will learn early reading, writing and maths skills in school and how they can support this at home. We encourage a parent to attend for each child where possible.

🌿 Forest Friday & Eco-Schools Update 🐞

We are very excited to be restarting our Eco-Schools journey and continuing to look after and improve our school environment.

As part of our first Forest Friday activity, we are going to be making bug hotels to provide a safe and welcoming habitat for insects and other minibeasts around our school grounds.

We would love to invite parents and carers to come along and help us build our bug hotels on Friday 16th October at 2pm.

Our reserve date, should the weather be unsuitable, will be Friday 23rd October at 2pm.

Before we begin building our larger bug hotels, we will be making some mini bug hotels using plant pots.

If you are able to help, we would be very grateful for donations of medium-sized plastic plant pots for the children to use. πŸͺ΄

Thank you for your support β€” we are really looking forward to working together to make our school a fantastic place for both children and wildlife! 🌱🐝🐞
